I have installed version 7 the Agent, Server and Console three times on a server running Windows Server 2000, SP 4. Each time gave the agent the same password. During installation of the server, I get a fatal error (java virtual machine launcher), but then the install goes ahead successfully -- I assume.
I then try to login to the console (on same host), it does not like the user name and password. I'm very certain of the account information. I did try to install version 6, then had a heck of a time uninstalling it when I put version 7 on.
Also, when I install the powerchute server, it does NOT prompt me for the user name and password of the agent. Isn't it supposed to do this?
Thanks!

I submitted a question to apc and they did supply me with the registry keys. It did install successfully! Version 6 really made a mess.

Are you actually installing PCBE Basic v7.00? Where did you get the software and has this installation ever worked on one of your machines before?
I would recommend re-installing Java on your computer, regardless of what version you have now.
Technically we do not support SP4 using PCBE 7.00, although whether or not this would have anything to do with compatibility I would need to check.

It's version 7.0.4 and I downloaded it directly from APC. We haven't used it before. I downloaded this version due to version 6.x having problems. I did uninstall the application, then install java on the server and then reinstall - no good.
Since most of our machines are Windows 2000, sp 4, it probably won't work. Too bad.
Thank you for your help.

Well, as opposed to PCBE 7.00, PCBE 7.0.4 is compatible with Windows 2000 Server/Pro/Advanced Server up to SP4 so this should be working.
You said you had difficulty uninstalling PCBE6.x. Could you describe this difficulty?
Also, I would recommend using PCBE7.0.5 instead of 7.0.4 since we've had some "bugginess" reported from v7.0.4 users.
Any anti-virus programs/suites running?

Easy E,
Just a recommendation...maybe get this guy the registry keys?
If he had 6.x, you know how flaky that was, may want to make sure absolutely everything is removed from 6 and any other previous installs before having him install another version.

That's exactly what I was moving towards. I'd just like his explanation of the original post comments re: PCBE 6.x 😉 to see if it sounds like a Java error or an InstallShield error or something unexpected.
But you're right in terms of the order of steps...I would like to know about the PCBE 6.x error before installing the new version.
