I was trying to install the PowerChute BE basic on the machine that has the UPS (smartups 700) attached to it but the "server" portion of the software froze on install. I tried re-running it twice and then I uninstalled it. The "agent" software installed fine, I think.
I tried to install it on my desktop Pc (Win2k) where I figured I'd just manage it from there, but I had the same installation freeze up issue. It starts the install and when a small window pops up saying something about "setting up server services" it hangs there and doesn't go any farther.
Now my BIG issue on the Win2k machine is this; I can't get it uninstalled and I can't get the Pc to fully boot to the desktop. I can't get into control panel except in "safe mode".
I've tried uninstalling in safe mode and it acts like it's removing the software (although too quickly), it asks to confirm that I want it removed then I click on "finish" but it doesn't go away. I can't even stop the pbeserver.exe from running in taskmanager.
The "services" shows that it's "starting"; I can't stop it and/or restart it because those options are grayed out.
My Pc is pretty much down until I can get this OFF. How can I remove PowerChute BE basic 6.0.2?
I've had to get my laptop out to get here to get some help. Please!
Brad

You should probably save him a call in, and since he provided his email address, send him the registry keys.

Thanks Powerman,
While doing some more research on my issues I found where 6 has had an issue and it was recommended to upgrade to 7.0.4. Trying to find 7.x was a little tricky but I am downloading as we speak.
Again, Thank You for your input. I'll make that call on Monday.

Hi Brad,
If it wont remove with add/remove programs then you will have to call in to tech support to get in information on doing a manual uninstall.
I would removed the whole thing and either use PowerChute Business Edition 7 or go to 8 and just not use the server.
See this kbase for more info on why not to install PCBE 6.

OK, I managed to reboot into safe mode and go into "msconfig" and turn off the APC PE Server in 'services' so it doesn't run when started (at boot up).
I can now boot up and use my computer again.
I still can't uninstall the PowerChute BusEdition software. How can I uninstall it and make it go away? Do I need a special program to uninstall it or remove it from my Pc?
