We currently have 5 servers connected to 3 PS units. they are connected through the USB interface. when I tun the Risk Assessment it gives me an Application Shutdown caution. I know that one of these servers is our Exchange server, and the other hosts WSUS (requires IIS) we have 2 other servers that aren't connected via USB. If we were to purchase PowerChute Deluxe Edition would it be able to shut down the 2 servers that aren't connected to the UPS via USB, or would we need ot get an expansion card for the Serial connection? Would our best bet to be to just issue the shutdown command via a script to the 2 servers that don't have the PowerChute agent installed?

hi again,
I actually posted this message, then I went to the other section and saw your response. Your response there basically answered my question here. and our distributor has a rebate on the management cards, so until the end of the year we'll be able to save money on them:) it also saves the hassle of buying the extender card, and the deluxe software (was looking to buy for exchange SQL server, and IIS reasons)
Once again thank you for your help!

hi again,
powerchute business edition strictly works via a physical connection to the UPS, so no, you wouldnt be able to shutdown those other two servers unless you run a command/batch file. powerchute business edition has that functionality so if you do it on a server that IS attached to the UPS, it can run a batch file to run over the network for those other two machines.
overall, i honestly think it will cost more and be more of a cabling mess if you start working with serial expander cards in the UPSs and that will also ruin the network management card/powerchute network shutdown software from the other thread here. also, with the serial expander options - they only provide "simple" signaling (versus smart signaling). this means that the UPS can only tell the servers that it is at a low battery state and they should shut down. it is only one way communication and the simple signaling devices you connect, cant communicate back to the UPS. so i dont think it will even work for what you want to do.
i highly recommend the other option in the other thread with the network management card and the powerchute network shutdown.
