Power chute will not Discover

I have PowerChute Business Deluxe installed on a server. I have UPS devices configured around the network, some on the same segment and some on another. PowerChute will not find anything...I even try to click new and add in manualy and it will not find them, yet I can http:// right to them without problem..

Any ideas?

I agree with voidstar. In your scenario, I would configure email on all of the NMCs, that way you can get email notifications based on events. As far as monitoring all of your devices, ISX MGR can do this, you would need the appliance, as well as a license key, depending on the amount of nodes you will monitor and if you are looking to grow in the near future.

What version of Deluxe do you have?
What types of UPS's do you have?

Try adding by hitting "New" and entering in the target IP address. Please note if you get an error doing this or not.

Just something to get you started!

Ok, well that makes this a bit interesting.

I assume what you mean is that you have a network management card in each UPS. If that's the case, then send back the PCBE deluxe software back to where you purchased it because that software requires a direct serial connection to each UPS.

Since you have Management Cards, you should be installing Powerchute Network Shutdown on each computer that you have being powered by each UPS. This is free software that can be downloaded from the site below. This software talks to the Management Cards and perform graceful shutdowns accordingly to your configuration.

http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/index.cfm?isocountrycode=US&tsk=

Now... if you're looking to centrally manage those Network Management Cards, you can use either a local Network Management Station and use SNMP, or you may want to look into an ISX Manager linked below. You'll be able to centrally manage all our UPS's, do mass configurations, mass firmware upgrades, and receive email alerts from one central station instead of having to set that up on each UPS.

Hope that clears things up!

ahhh, I was told that I would be able to have this software watch up to 25 networked UPS systems and have them all under one screen.
These are not connected to individual systems, they are in network closets and on multiple servers.

Sorry to hear that's what you were told. PCBE does provide you an interface to view multiple agents, but those agents do need a physical, not network, connection to the server. (Hence the serial and USB ports / cables)

If you already have the Management cards, then definitely use Powerchute Network Shutdown. It's much more convenient when you don't have to run cables everywhere.

I too was told that same thing. I bought 6 management cards and installed in my SU3000RM units and try to monitor with the business edition software. I too was told that it would monitor all 6 of my units thru the network. This came from APC support, and that is where I bought the management cards from.

So what software can I use to monitor my units. I have units in different areas of the building, in power closets, so I can provide backup power in sections of the building. So I can not monitor thru serial cable, unless I did it the old way and walked around with a laptop to check each unit. That is why I spent the money to buy the management cards and ran network cables to each of the power closets.

Since it's only 6 devices, buying something like the ISX Manager and a 25-node lisence isn't the least invasive way to do this. Create a bookmark folder within IE, and bookmark the IP addresses of all the NMC's installed in the UPS. If you have servers/PC's that need graceful shutdown, install PowerChute Network Shutdown on each of those Clients, and that will provide the shutdown portion of the UPS.

The software is available here:

The problem with using the web browser is that you only get a snapshot of the status of the unit. You have to constantly refresh the page to see any changes. This is not real time as was told to me by the tech support that sold me the network management cards. I was expecting real time monitoring thru the network using the Business software.

I have done as suggested, to bookmark the ip addresses but it is a pain to load each page and log in constantly and also have to refresh the pages constantly to monitor. Tech support needs to have a better handle on this issue before telling customers that real time monitoring can be done thru the network using the Business software and network management cards.

rjstuart, you can set up the NMCs to notify you about any change in status, through administration->notifications. E-mail works pretty well, although I find I prefer the trap receiver approach since the NMC can generate them faster. I hope these notification mechanisms meet your needs.
