We have relatively new PDU 7900Bs. One from 2022 running AOS 7.0.4 and our new 2023 models are running v1.5.1.1
When I go to product software downloads its not clear to me what the firmware is. I see RPDU but it seems to only be for version 7.x. Can someone tell me the best practices for updating APC PDU firmware? The site itself doesn't seem clear and a bit convoluted. On top of that, they seems to be NCM, PDU and Bootmon versions. Do they all require different firmware? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

If the PDU’s are still under APC warranty it’s imperative that you reach out to APC Technical Support over the phone to complete the firmware process! ☝️
They will provide you the correct firmware and walk you through the upgrade process. If something goes wrong they can assist in the recovery / RMA process.
You need only scan this forum and the internet to see what can happen during a so called firmware upgrade. That can span from unable to access, bricked, to a dead PDU.
A firmware upgrade should only be done to address bugs, security, and feature enhancements.
In all cases you’ll need the supplied APC serial cable or one you’ve made and validated that works. You will need a fully configured laptop to make the direct connection.
Read and fully understand the steps as to the recovery process using the CLI. Ideally your site should have hot spares / test units so you can practice all of the above to gain insight as to how things operate / fail.
Lastly, it’s imperative to understand regardless of what APC support tells you. Any major revision must be done in sequence! ☝️
Meaning 3.XX -> 4.XX -> 5.XX etc.
If you jump from 3.XX to 5/6.XX you have more than 50% chance of bricking the unit. 🤦♂️🤣
NOTE: The PDU must be connected to a UPS to ensure stable power during the firmware upgrade process!
