Hi
We have a multiple ESXi host setup and these hosts are physically split into two groups, and each group of hosts has a pair of UPS feeding the group, each UPS supplies one of the redundant Server PSUs. In this configuration one UPS or one server PSU can fail and all the servers will continue. With ESX 4.0 each machine had PCNS installed and was configured to monitor its 'own pair' of UPS. This also meant that one set of UPS could completely fail, shutting down its group of hosts and the other group of hosts would continue.
I understand that PCNS for VMware is installed on a ViMA for ESXi.
How should this be configured for ESXi ? Do I install PCNS 2.2.4 on one ViMA and can it then separately monitor both groups of UPS and inform only the relevant servers, or do I need two ViMA associated separately with the UPS / HOST groups ?
Best Regards
Dave

hi david,
we have a few articles on VMWare ESXi, i suggest that you search our knowledgebase and take a look at those documents, before we duplicate efforts replying.
http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/list - (search for ESX or ESXi or VMWare)
just a quick summary of what i can tell you ---> you install PCNS on each of the barebones ESXi VMware boxes and then you can either 1.) use VMware tools or some option in the VMWare software to tell it to shutdown the guest operating systems before the barebones ESXi shuts down or 2.) install the free PCNS on the host operating systems like any other client if they are bridged to the network.
i hope that helps. please let us know if there are any additional questions.
P.S. - each version of PCNS should let you monitor multiple UPSs. [some info here on that|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3143]
