[PCNS] Shutdown a host failed

Hi all,

I followed the VMware user guide to configure PCNS settings.

Unfortunately, I cannot shutdown the VM host. Could anyone help me to resolve this problem?

Thanks!

Hi,

I need to see the error.log file and the pcnsconfig.ini file to help. Also, where is PCNS installed now? Is the appliance installed, is running on VMware vMA, or is it still installed on the stand-along as in the screen shots?

What I see from the screen shots is PCNS is starting the shutdown

01/22/2016	13:05:14	UPS has switched to battery power.
01/22/2016	13:08:14	UPS critical event: On Battery.
01/22/2016	13:08:15	Shutdown sequence started on Hosts ucphksvrvm00001.uch.local, ucphksvrvm00002.uch.local, ucphksvrvm00003.uch.local in response to UPS critical event: On Battery.
01/22/2016	13:08:15	Starting Maintenance Mode Task on Host ucphksvrvm00001.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:08:15	Shutting down VMs on Host ucphksvrvm00001.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:08:43	Starting Maintenance Mode Task on Host ucphksvrvm00003.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:08:43	Shutting down VMs on Host ucphksvrvm00003.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:08:43	Starting Maintenance Mode Task on Host ucphksvrvm00002.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:08:43	Shutting down VMs on Host ucphksvrvm00002.uch.local.
01/22/2016	13:20:49	UPS is no longer running on battery power or output power has been turned on.

but I do not see PCNS commanding VCSA down and then powering down the hosts. I also do not see PCNS shutting down the OS it is running on if this was from a stand-alone Windows system. The error.log file should list what may have happened.

When you have time test the shutdown again and I would like you to put PCNS into debug mode (see Kbase FA230514) for instruction on how to put PCNS into debug mode. After running the test send error.log , EventLog.txt and pcnsconfig.ini

Hi,

It would be helpful to see the error.log and pcnsconfig.ini files which is in the folder / directory PowerChute is installed to.

Also, is PowerChute running on a virtual machine vMA, Appliance, or stand-alone Windows system? I see in the screenshot that the PCNS icon is not associated with any of the hosts. I should see the PCNS icon similar to what I how I see VCSA icon associated with host ucphksvrvm00001.uch.local if PCNS is running on a VM.

Hi Bill,

Yes. We tested the PCNS twice. The first time using VM and the second time using Physical Windows(Also called Standalone, am I right?) and the testing result are the same.

In addition, the uploaded screenshot is captured from Windows.
