Hello,
What behaviour to expect in case a VM (6.5) becomes unresponsive and the PCNS sends the shutdown command to the host, where the unresponsive VM resides? Will the host shutdown be cancelled or forcefully completed?
It is problematic to test - need to make the VM unresponsive in a managed manner but need to know what to expect in the production environment.
Serge

Hi,
How is PCNS configured? Is it running on a Windows system, VMware vMA, or is the PCNS Appliance installer?
Is PCNS configured to power down a single host or configured to communicate with vCenter Server?
Is there a specific VM you are referring to?

- PCNS is configured as Virtual Appliance located on the same host where vSphere Server and other VM's are located;
- PCNS is configured to communicate with vSphere Server (we have 2x hosts cluster managed by vSphere Server);
- we have W2008R2 VM's as well as W2016 VM's.
Also PCNS is configured for not migrating any VM's and not powering off the UPS.
We need to know what behaviour to expect in case any of the VM's becomes unresponsive?
Or this question is more for vCenter Server, which will try to shutdown the VM's after receiving the command from PCNS?

Hi,

Once PCNS send the shutdown command to the VMs it will wait the set delay and then move on the the next task. If a VM is off or suspended PCNS will skip the shutdown process for that VM.

After commanding the VMs down and waiting the VM shutdown delay PCNS will command vCenter down. PCNS will then wait the set delay for vCenter to power down and then begin the host shutdown process.
The shutdown sequence for your configuration is listed in the User's Guide on page 94 http://www.apc.com/salestools/PMAR-9DNLQK/PMAR-9DNLQK_R3_EN.pdf?sdirect=true
