Hi all,
Hope someone can shed some light on this minor issue.
I have a SmartUPS 1500 with an AP9617 management card.
I have two servers running from this UPS, one is a physical Windows Server 2003 R2 and the other runs VMWare ESXi 5. I have PCNS 3.0.1 installed on both servers. Both installs appear to work fine but I am getting the following constantly logged in the 2003 server PCNS event log:
Date Time Event
05/12/2012 13:59:59 Communication has been established
05/12/2012 13:59:59 Network Management Card cannot communicate with the UPS

As can be seen from above it appears to lose connection and then immediately reconnect o.k. This goes on all day everyday. I cannot find anything wrong with the network setup of this server and the ESXi PCNS event log does not do this even though the event logging configs are identical.
Other than the events being logged, all appears to be functioning correctly.
Has anyone out there experienced this issue or have any pointers to help me find where the problem lies?
Many thanks,
Shamus

Event log on the NMC does not show anything related to these issues. It does show power events and user logins to the NMC...

Shamus,
Is the Windows IP address listed on the NMC's PCNS client list? You can verify this via the NMC Web UI UPS Tab>PowerChute>Clients. Have you also tried disabling the firewall on the Windows PC and then monitoring the log files?

i'd start here -> http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7711
i'd check item #11. it seems like something is interfering with UDP port 3052.
this link also might be helpful -> http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/TDOY-5UQVBV_R3_EN.pdf
hope that helps.

Thanks both of you for your suggestions...
IP is correctly listed on the NMC client list and the windows firewall is already disabled.
The NMC and both PCNS clients are all connected on the same switch so there are no other routers or firewalls in the mix.
All network connectivity checks out fine. I can hit the NMC on both 80 & 443 from the windows server. I can also hit the PCNS clients on both HTTP 3052 & HTTPS 6547 (I tried both configs) from any machine on the network.
I am beginning to think this is possibly a bug...

You're seeing "Network Management Card cannot communicate with the UPS" in the PCNS log? I'm curious if the NMC log shows the same thing.
