Strange chatter noice from SRC 2000 XLI CC

I bought the above UPS yesterday and observed these two things:-
1) whenever ups operated on batteries and there is no equipment connected to it, there is a chatter sound that comes from it. The moment you connect equipment it works silently.
2) The voltage display from the battery charge LEDs during the test mode is seemingly incorrect. It show 4 LEDs lit which means the voltage is above 248. House lights are rather dim and voltage should be low not high.
3) I charged the batteries overnight ( it's one day old ups) and it showed me 5 LEDs but the moment it starts running on batteries the 5th drops. How come a fully charged battery suddenly discharges in a second. When connected to utility power the 5th led takes 1 hour to lit up again.
