Older Model Issues

Hi,

I have a couple of older model UPS's that I need to run as-is for a while before updating and they have a couple of issues;

I have a APC Smart UPS 1000 Model: SU1000NET and whenever I plug a serial plug into the serial port it shuts off instantly. Any ideas?

With ALL of my older models; the SU1000NET and two BK500M's and a BK650MC they ALL fail to be recognized by Powercute. I've tried v2.2 and v3.02. Do these older (serial comm) models require an older version of Powerchute to work, or should they work w/either that I've tried?

I will update, but it'll be months before I can. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks, how can I find out specifically which APC serial cable I need for each, or preferably one I can share between them?

you need to make sure you are using an APC serial cable. these serial ports have a non-standard pinout and a standard serial cable can cause this. you will need the APC part number of 940-0024 or 940-1524 for this UPS. the cable part number is usually engraved on one of the DB-9 connectors if you want to verify and its also a black cable (versus gray).
With ALL of my older models; the SU1000NET and two BK500M's and a BK650MC they ALL fail to be recognized by Powercute. I've tried v2.2 and v3.02. Do these older (serial comm) models require an older version of Powerchute to work, or should they work w/either that I've tried?
We should verify the serial cable you are working with. I think BK500M and BK650MC only support simple signaling with 940-0020 but i'd have to double check. if anything, itd be the 940-0024, 940-1524, or 940-0020 but a non-APC cable will not work. These older units also will not work with powerchute personal edition because thats for newer USB model UPS units only. You'll have to use powerchute plus or powerchute business edition most likely because those support serial. or you can use your operating systems native UPS support, if supported on the particular OS.

I have a model # BN1350M2 for which I get "no results found" when I enter to find my replacement battery. Is my unit obsolete? If so, what new model # is recommended in order to have longer-term future product support in the way of replacement battery availability, thank you.

Your unit requires a APC part number APCRBC162. You can buy it directly from APC using this link:

https://www.apc.com/ca/en/product/BN1350M2-CA/apc-backups-pro-1350va-120v-avr-lcd-2-usb-charging-por...

Or look on line to see if the equivalent is available. 👍
