Hi. I'm a SmartUPS user from way back, but only recently have I installed PowerChute on my Win7 x64 system. I'm using a SUA1000 connected via UPS. The software installations seem to have gone fine (agent, server, console). I'm configuring the shutdown sequence and had some questions:
1. Is the Command File needed only if I have processes running which are at risk of not shutting down properly when the OS shuts down? IOW, under what sort of circumstances would a Command File be useful?
2. In the Shutdown Sequence panel, is there a recommended "staging" for the Microsoft components (Exchange, IIS, OS)? If I have the OS shutdown starting at, say, 10 minutes, do I want Exchange and IIS o start at the same time? Or is it best to shut them down in some order?
I did do a bit of a search, but there's so much information here it became a bit of a hunt. Thanks in advance.

OK. I have PCBE installed. Tested the email notification and it works fine. I went to setup a shutdown schedule but wasn't sure how to sequence Microsoft IIS relative to the OS.

Hi Tony,
From what I have tested software, command files are used on applications wherein our software cannot be installed or used such as an unsupported Operating System. With regards to shutdown sequence, it would be better to turn off/stop the running applications first before shutting down the main Operating System.

Thank you Jon. Will installing PowerChute in Win7 automatically turn off any Power Profile setting I may have for "Battery" power (in the Windows Control Panel)? Or will I have to zero out those settings?

Installing any APC PowerChute Software (PowerChute Personal, Network Shutdown and Business Edition) automatically disables/stops the Native Power Software of your PC.

Thanks again. Does the current version of PCBE have the Win7 UAC problem reported for earlier versions of PCPE (I noticed PCBE is not as recent as the current PCPE)?
Also, does PCBE do phone text alerts as well as email alerts?
Oh, one last thing. I noticed that PCBE was what came up when I checked the available software for the SUA1000. Does that mean PCPE is not recommended?

PCBE did not have the same UAC issues as PCPE. also, PCPE only supports USB Back UPS and not Smart UPS, such as the SUA1000. You need to use PCBE for any Smart UPS (or a network management card which is an additional cost).
for PCBE emails, I havent tested that (only have on the network management card) but you'd have use a format like 2035551234@txt.att.net and add an email recipient. if your network is set up correctly in order to relay those emails outside of your network, then it should work. again, i have not tested it on PCBE so i can't say from experience there is nothing else required but that's how i'd start.
