I recently updated my computer system and used a program to port over my prior profile to the new HP system. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Everything works fine. I recently also bought the APC 1500 backup. I had a prior APC backup but did not notice that PCPE was not running on the new system. Anyway, when I tried installing PCPE 3 I get the error message that an older version exists and must be uninstalled first. The problem is that the new system has NO APC directory anywhere. Nor is there an APC app or service or process running when I check Device Manager. There is nothing even in the Registry under LOCAL Software. So I am at a loss on how to remedy the problem and install the new version. Please help! Andrew

TRY THIS: (use "find" under edit tab of Registry Editor to make sure you find PowerChute keys as indicated in instructions.)
*****
You will want to kill the PowerChute.exe, apcsystray.exe and mainserve.exe processes if running before you do the following steps
1. From the installation directory in Explorer
(e.g. 32 Bit - C:\Program Files\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition
64 Bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition) remove the entire contents from the first 'APC' down, that is assuming you used the default path and you do not have any other APC products installed.
2.a In the Registry (open by going to Start->Run->type 'regedit') a. go to the
32 bit - 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\APC' key.
64 bit - 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE|\Wow6432Node\APC.
If you do not have any other APC products installed delete the entire APC key, otherwise just delete the APC PowerChute Personal Edition key.
2.b Go to the registry
32 Bit - 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall'
64 Bit - 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and then search for PowerChute Personal Edition.
This should return a key with the following contents:
DisplayName
UninstallString.
Remove the entire key where the match occurs.
*Note: Keep a track on the 'name of the string', it should be something like {F1486DE6-CC2E-48C0-AD20-C2C142FA1636}, but this will be depend on what Windows installer assign to it.
2.c Go to registry on both 32 bit and 64 bit machines - 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\'
search for 'PowerChute Personal edition'.
This should return a key with the following content:
ProductName
Remove the entire key where the match occurs
***END

Hi Andrew,
Please check the PM that I have sent you. Follow the steps carefully and re-attempt to install PCPE.

Hi JonPro, I also have W7 w/64 bit operating system. New installation of APC ES550G. Cannot get PowerShute to activate. It installs, indicates that software is shutting off Windows power management program but I can't get the PowerChute software to run. When I try to access the program, I get an error message indicating that communications with the UPS has failed. Seems like this program is not compatible with W7 w/64 bit. Any suggestions? Ed
