Hi all,
We have a SmartUPS-DP 10000 with a network management card I can administer through a web browser.
Last week I started recieving emails from the management card:
v1
Name : APC Smart-UPS DP 10000 XL
Location : Server Room
Contact : Rob Tyler
http://10.216.8.25
Serial # : JA0204000971
UPS Ser #: NA
Date: 12/07/2009
Time: 08:48:41
Code: 0x0002
Severe - System: Warmstart.
I get these emails every 2 minutes. I've tried resetting the management card by pressing the reset button on the back of the card, but the emails keep coming. Looks to me that the card is restarting itself every 2 minutes - does anyone know why it might be doing this, or what can be done to resolve it?
Thanks
Rob.

Rob,
If you have any questions, please get back to us with the following details to provide you assistance.
Could you please let us know the exact Model and Serial number of the UPS and NMC as well? You can find these details on a white bar code sticker at the rear of the units. What is the firmware version of the NMC? Could you please post the event logs of the NMC?

JonPro - thanks for the article - I gave it a read and checked the network settings were OK and they do seem to be. Besides, nothing has changed on the UPS for months
Techie - I have found out the following information:
Model: Smart-UPS DP 10000 XL
Firmware Revision: 311.5.I
Manufacture date: 11/01/01
Serial Number: GS0144362959
I couldn't see a serial number on the network management card, only this:
"APC Smart Slot AP9617 Network Management Card"
How would I find out the firmware of the NMC?
Thanks
Rob.
Also, some sample logs:
12/07/2009 15:39:56 System: Web user 'apc' logged in from 10.216.28.35.

12/07/2009 15:38:41 System: Warmstart.
12/07/2009 15:37:06 System: Email: Could not resolve 'hrgex01.company.com'.
12/07/2009 15:36:44 UPS: Communications established.
12/07/2009 15:36:36 System: Warmstart.
12/07/2009 15:35:00 System: Email: Could not resolve 'hrgex01.company.com'.
12/07/2009 15:34:38 UPS: Communications established.
12/07/2009 15:34:31 System: Warmstart.
HRGEX01 is our Exchange server. I have checked the DNS settings on the UPS and they are correct. I can do an nslookup of "hrgex01.company.com" using the same DNS server and get resolution OK, also if it can't resolve my mail server then how is it sending the emails to me?!

Rob,
Can you send a screenshot of how does your network management card interface looks like? Based from what you gave us the serial number of your card is JA0204000971 and the part number is AP9617. If you can see tabs on the interface please click on Administration and then choose General and then click on About. If you can see menus on the left side then you need to click on Help and then About System.

its most likely warmstarting due to the email failure. you also might want to reset the card to defaults (after backing up your config.ini file), and then seeing if you still have the same issue.
techie and jonpro can help you on how to backup the config.ini file if you need to.
