My SURTA1500XL won't turn on - No lights or fans when plugged in. Buttons don't work.

I've taken the top/side off the unit to do some testing and take pics.  I am getting current to where the power plugs into the board but there is no power going to the output plugs.  I tested the voltage of the batteries and they are at about 22V, IDK what they should be at, I just got this unit used.

I don't know where to start to trouble shoot this thing.  I just can't believe that a piece of hardware this big and expensive can't be repaired with some work.  I would like to learn how to do it so if there is anyone here who can get me started on where to look I'd appreciate it.  I'm a computer technician by trade and have worked with electronics for a long time.  I'm not very experienced at board level diagnostics but know how to use a multimeter pretty well.

I looked over the case and I don't see anything that looks like burn, melts, bulging caps or anything else that I know of to look for.  I'm posting pics just in case.

Oh, is there no fuse, circuit breaker or reset switch on this thing?

as we don't distribute schematics since they are proprietary, and I have no knowledge at this level of the UPS circuitry anyway, i don't think i could help. just wanted to let you know we were not ignoring your post.

as far as i know, any application below 30A typically does not have a circuit breaker but if it was something the user could check, it'd be on the rear of the unit near the input plug connection and where it goes in the chassis (if it was not removable as some international models may have).

I believe the battery pack voltage is too low for the UPS to start up. APC knowledge base says 42 volts is the minimum on the nominally 48 volt module and you're only around half of that. Connect the battery and plug the ups in for 2 to 3 hours - if it is working properly it should charge the battery up during that time (even when the UPS is switched off and there are no front panel leds lit up) and then you can try powering it on.

If the battery has been sitting for awhile (weeks/months) in a discharged state and now measures only 22 volts it is likely unusable because a totally discharged battery will start to deteriorate if left discharged beyond 72 hours.  In that case even after 3 hours charging the UPS may still not start up...

Good call Battman - I forgot this is a 48v system and not a 24v system as some smaller UPSs are. I'd agree with your suggestion - need to get some good batteries to try.

I'm a little late, but were you able to solve the problem?
