Greetings.
I have the reverse issue of a previous post: not one UPS with multiple servers, but two UPSs with multiple servers.
Here's my issue:
I have a Symmetra LX 16000 RM and an APC 5000 at the ready in our server room. Both have PowerChute. In the event of a power loss, I want these two UPSs to shutdown in a synchronized manner, which is initially problematic since the Symmetra has much more power-on time than the 5000. Using PowerChute, the option USED to be something along the lines of "how long until shutdown commences", where you could easily sync several UPSs, indicating 25 minutes on battery and the shutdown would begin. NOW, the option in Sync Control (PowerChute) asks for "Start of Shutdown", which will never be able to be synchronized between these two APCs because of the greater power (time on) of the Symmetra.
If I'm not being clear, what I want to do is this: if we lose power and the UPSs kick-on, the 10 minutes left for the APC 5000 will be something like 30 (for the sake of the argument) on the Symmetra. If I have dependent servers on one UPS and their parent servers on another UPS, I can't have asynchronized shutdowns without losing data. I need both systems to begin shutdown after ~30 minutes on battery (for the sake of argument), together. Is anyone aware of how to configure this? We're a Mac/Microsoft shop running PowerChute.
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
Fred

hi fred,
you are right in saying that you wont be able to do a true custom install of powerchute network shutdown because you are using two different UPS types (Smart UPS I am guessing versus Symmetra).
im wondering though if you can set up different powerchute network shutdown instances. that is explained [here.|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=9446].
i am not sure if that work but i will throw it out there.
