I met a Matrix 5000 UPS on site which was not diplaying anything on front panel. On opening I found two of the six bigger relays were faulty (on the control board).I replaced those and the display was on with the connection of batteries and switching ON the UPS.But the problem comes when you just plug in AC voltage it trips the MCCB of the whole buliding.I tried not to connect batteries, but the problem is still there.Any idea which part could be defective? I measured the AC input board, devices there reads fine.

Since then I managed to get a used control board and replaced it.The UPS is working but it gives a fan error. The fan in question is the IU fan.I will try to find another fan for replacement to see the response. By the way, the utility was tripping as it seems the circuit in question was being overloaded. We had to shift the UPS to a separate Circuit!

When you say that 2 of the 6 relays were faulty, do you mean that the coils were open or that the contacts were stuck / burnt? In either case, I'd suspect something was seriously wrong elsewhere in the unit. I'd suggest replacing the whole unit if you're tripping building circuit breakers.
The Matrix units have been out of production for many years - even the 3rd-party service company that APC recommended for out-of-warranty repairs no longer services them. Replacement batteries are still available, but that's about it.
If you replace it with another used Matrix unit, I suggest swapping the complete assembly - lower (input) and upper (electronics) modules together. Even with fully-functional units, not all combinations of upper and lower modules will work. This seems to be due to various revisions made to the design over time.
Note that I don't work for / represent / etc. APC - I've just been responsible for managing / maintaining dozens of these units over time as a customer.

Thanks Kennedy, the coils of the relays were open. I will see what I can advise the customer; but surely he will have to go for a new UPS.
