Hello,
Can you do a runtime calibration on a Matrix 5000 with everything still plugged in without it shutting down everything?

Hi,
The calibration for the Matrix UPS must be run manually, not using any software or accessories. You can initiate the Cal Test from the front display, or if absolutely necessary, by removing input power from the unit. You can find instructions here. These must be followed to the letter, else the runtime cal. is likely to fail.
If this hasn't worked, there is either a problem with the EU, or one of the battpacks is not reporting itself to the EU. Check the status page for battery information and make sure the # of packs looks correct and the correct types are identified (XR vs. regular SmartCell). Also make sure there are no red LEDs on the batt packs. If this all looks correct, you can try reseating the EU. Unscrew the large screw in the back of the UPS that joins the top and bottom sections, and lift up, then set down the EU. Screw the separating screw back into place. This will put the UPS into bypass FYI, but is generally load-safe.
If the above steps don't fix the issue, it is likely the EU is bad. The batt packs only report three things: "I am Present", "I am good/bad", "I am Battery Type +xyz+". Therefore the battery pack would not be causing the issue unless it is just not showing up or is reporting itself as the wrong type of pack, which would be a comm card issue. The IU (bottom portion) of the UPS would not be related to this issue.

Erin,
If you have installed the Management Software, you can initiate the run time calibration through Software on your Matrix 5000 with everything still plugged in without it shutting down everything. Please make sure that the battery is at 100% charge when the Runtime Calibration is initiated/started.

Thanks for the reply. I did that and let the machine do the test, but now it only shows 4 min. of runtime. The load is 21%. There are 2 smartcells with this, and that is not showing the correct runtime. What could be the problem you think? These batteries were plugged in all weekend charging, they said 100% so I did the test. Don't really understand. Thanks for any help.

How old are the batteries? Have the original batteries that came with the UPS ever been replaced?

Yes. The batteries were just replaced. I have never seen this before. Usually, when I switch the battery packs, the runtime would shoot up. But this time it did not. Do you think it could be an EU fault? It shows it has 2 battery packs. I also did not get the message that battery packs have changed. Is there a way to dead brain this unit, maybe that will reset something? Just throwing ideas out there. Thanks.

Did you replace the SmartCell batteries with third party batteries? May I know the version of the Power Chute software which is being used?

No, I am a partner with APC, and I replaced the batteries with APC batteries. There is no powerchute with this machine. This machine was given to the company when they moved in. The original batteries were hot to the touch, so I replaced them.
