Every so often I will loose communication with the UPS but randomly and only for a few seconds. The whole unit has been replace but the problem is still acurring. Does anyone have any suggestions. Cord and UPS are new.

Will this unit maintain communication to another system? If so, then what's going on local to this system.
Perhaps there's an issue with your serial port we should be looking at.

I would recommend to brain dead the UPS to ensure 100% communication on the SERIAL port. To do so:
1. Power off any attached load and disconnect from the UPS
2. Power off the UPS and disconnect from the wall
3. Remove all communications cables
4. Depress the Off button for approximately 4-6 seconds until you hear a click and the LED's flash
5. Reconnect everything, and continue to monitor for communication loss
