I am wondering if it is important from a powerconsumption standpoint, or any other good reason, to load a UPS to a certain point for best performance. The reason asked, Our server room has ended up over the years with several 1500 rack mounts with hardly a load, 5-10% maybe. We do not need the runtime as we have a generator. I am thinking it would reduce power consumption and reduce heat load a bit to run them @ 50-60% capacity and remove the unneeded ones.

Hi Mark,
Our recommendation is for the load not to exceed 80% of its capacity to prevent overloading and to at least have a certain amount of runtime. This can be seen on this APC Knowledgebase Article [Why is my equipment dropped or rebooted while connected to my Smart-UPS?|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38/kw/80%25%20load]
