Hi
we are using a Smart UPS 3000. It is our first APC Product, and we are not familar with the kinds of agents/software products.
What i can say is, that we have a network management module within the smartups3000.
Now how are the "agents" or what kind of software ever i will use, licensed? Are all member server (8 windows 2008 hosts and 2 ESX-Hosts) automatically licensed to use.......hmm powerchute?network shutdown? Which one will i use?
Kind regards
Hans

Hi Hans,
Since you do have a network management card on your UPS, the compatible and best software to use with it is the Power Chute Network Shutdown. Please check the [PowerChute Network Shutdown Compatibility Chart|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/SJHN-7AYQNP_R28_EN.pdf]

Hi,
thanks for your answer. And how many Agents are allowed for standard smart ups 3000? How is this product (network shutdown)
licensed?
Is network shutdown a dedicated server software? Or only a agent software?
Kind regards

Hi Hans,
PowerChute Business Edition (PCBE) and PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) are two different software that we are offering. For a start, you have seen the PCNS Compatibility Chart. Now here is the [PCBE Compatibility Chart|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QEV_R25_EN.pdf]. Also, please see the features that each software can offer and other things that you need.
PCBE
- In order for you to use PCBE you need to be physically connected to the UPS via the Serial or USB cable.
- PCBE has three components: Agent, Server and Console
- PCBE Agent is the one that communicates/talks to the UPS. This application utilizes the serial/usb cable and is the one responsible for sending the shutdown signal to the PC.
- PCBE Server is the one that communicates and manages the Agent. The free 5-node PCBE can manage a group of 5 Agent while Deluxe can manage up to 25 Agent. PCBE Server is a background process.
- PCBE Console is responsible for providing the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of PCBE Server.
- If you are going to use the PCBE Server and Console, you need to have a network.
- PCBE gives you the capability to send an e-mail and broadcast notification (depending on the OS).
- On SU and SUA SmartUPS you can only use either Serial or USB which means that if you want to install the Agent on multiple PC with just a single UPS you need to purchase either a 2-port or an 8-port Interface Expander.
- On newer Smart-UPS (SMT/SMX) you can no longer use the Interface Expander
PCNS
- In order for you to use this, you need to purchase or install a network management card (AP9631/AP9630) on your SmartUPS.
- PCNS is responsible for shutting down the Operating System
- NMC is responsible for sending notification via e-mail, SNMP Trap and Syslog
- NMC also supports SSH/SSL and RADIUS.
