Hey Everyone!
I have had a J10 Power Conditioner & Battery Backup (http://www.apc.com/products/apcav/products/index.cfm?action=detail&base_sku=J10BLK). It's been running great protecting my tv console. And still is (on second battery).
What I wanted to know was how or what were the proper conditions from which to initiate a "Run Time Calculation" from the front panel. I've initiated it twice so far. Once on normal load and once when everything was connected but turned off. The one during the normal load ran for a few minutes and then aborted with no other information as to what/why. The one with everything turned off ran for a long time. Longer than the hour and a half I had before I had to go to work so I aborted that one manually. I have done some forum searching and near as I can tell the only way I will be able to as accurately as possible perform this Run Time Calculation test is to unplug it let it go below the "Low Battery Warning" value and plug it back in.
The manual only barely even covers what that feature is but nothing about what if any ideal conditions should be in place before initiating this test. And maybe because of the age and model of this particular APC there isn't one. Mainly looking for any confirmation or additional opinions to support my likely decision to unplug, dip below low bat. warning,and plug back in later this week.

i know in order for a calibration to continue, you need to have the following all true:
• load above a certain % - I believe it is 10 mins on this unit
• have a battery capacity of 100%
• not be running ON battery at the time
• and then nothing must interrupt the calibration. the load should also not fluctuate.
if i had my way, i'd suggest you put a non critical load on the AV UPS and then just remove the AC cord from the wall and let it turn off on its own. once it's all set, turn it on and let it charge up.
i would also note i'd only do the calibration maybe 1-2 times a year or after i replace the batteries.
