I have a XS 1000 APC Backup and when I attempt to look for upgrades through the program, I receive an error message that say I have no internet connection....but I do and I am properly connected with all of the cables. Any suggestions?

I would just suggest checking manually. This could be due to blocked ports or services.
Check under Help & Support -> Technical data. The latest version is v3.0.2. If you are not at 3.0.2, you could download the update manually.
