This was originally posted on APC forums on 6/3/2016

Hi,

Can someone advice me what is the input current required for SRT10KRMXLI UPS? We have 3 phase 20amps, does it sufficient for this model of UPS? Thank you.

Bill,

Thanks for sharing the installation guide. In deep wee have refereed to this spec but we are not sure which column of information to read.   We currently runs on 3 phase 20 A single feed, we would like to get your technical expertise to assist us to confirm that our current socket (3 phase 20 A) is sufficient to support SRT10KRMXLI UPS we plan to purchase. According to the spec, it stated “Current Full Load (nominal)” is 18 A and “External Input Circuit Breaker Mains (typical)” is 80 A, we are not sure what is the different of those 2 reading indicating about. Our electrician wants us to confirm that the input current required is the reading out from “Current Full Load (nominal)” is 18 A and not  “External Input Circuit Breaker Mains (typical)” is 80 A. Thank you for your advice.

If your electrician needs to ask that then it is time to employ a new electrician.

You need to fit 80A MCB's or 80A 4 pole MCB at distribution board. The 18A showing there is the typical load current which can range from 18A to around 54A. 8OA is the peak current which should not be exceeded in any case.

It’s a shame that some forum users don’t want to help others to learn.

This UPS can be supplied by either a single or 3 phase electrical supply. If supplied by a 3 phase supply, the load on each phase will be a maximum as was suggested (in the order of 20 Amps per phase). The supply becomes an issue if the UPS develops an internal fault and needs to switch to static bypass. When the UPS is in static bypass all of the input load switches to one phase (usually L1 depending how the UPS has been wired ). The supply would then be overloaded and trip.

your electrician may be very good but it sounds like he is not familiar with UPS’s or at least this model. I would suggest you use someone who is competent (has the necessary knowledge skills and experience of how to install and commission) this UPS. The individual should be able to demonstrate they have been trained by Schneider on this product and have experience of installing the same - this should not be their first time. They should also be able to commission the UPS correctly including updating the UPS firmware and configuring the network management card for you.
