My configuration:
Model: Smart-UPS 1500
Serial Number: AS1203xxxxxx
Firmware Revision: UPS 06.5 / MCU 11.0 / UBL 08.2 / MBL 11.0 (ID18)
Manufacture Date: 01/10/2012
My problem: I am unable to update the firmware. At first I tried following the instructions in this article (http://www.schneider-electric.ca/en/faqs/content/?id=FA170679) but encountered an error: "Update file not present in upsfw/ directory."
Then I found out that the AP9631 has a FTP server, so I tried uploading the firmware file (SMT18UPS_09-3.enc) to "ftp://apc@
How do I remotely update the firmware on my UPS?

For anyone else trying to follow the instructions here (http://www.schneider-electric.ca/en/faqs/index?page=content&id=FA156099) you should know that the URL http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/ redirects you to http://www.apc.com/us/en/# (not very helpful). Instead, browse to http://www.apc.com/us/en/tools/download/ to search for firmware update files.

Hi aenagy,
The knowledgebase article describes the process for the latest NMC firmware. You're using an older one. If you upgrade the NMC, options for updating the UPS from the web and from a USB drive become available.
For the older NMC firmware, you are following the right process. Perhaps try a command line FTP client rather than Filezilla. If your firmware file is corrupt, the NMC may abort the connection mid-transfer and log a message in the event log.
I think you have an older SMT1500? I wouldn't update it unless necessary.

I tried your suggestion of using the FTP.EXE built-in to Windows 7 and it worked, much to my surprise. The NMC2 web GUI did pick-up the newly uploaded file. This is what it looks like after the update.
The About page shows: "Firmware Revision: UPS 09.3 / MCU 19.0 / UBL 08.5 / MBL 19.0 (ID18) ". For reference I have included the output from the FTP session below with the critical commands bolded. It would be nice if APC/Schneider included this step in their documentation. Thanks for the suggestion.
How do I figure out if I have a new SMT1500 vs old SMT1500?
Now to update the NMC2.
