The password was changed from the default, how can I log on to the device? or is there some way to reset the box to factory defaults to start again?
These are old devices, the manual that came with it is dated 8/99 and appears to be about a 1/4 the size of the newer manuals that I see on line. I found one manual that states that you can recover a lost password by pushing the reset button and then pushing again when the status light flashes green and orange however as far as I can determine pushing the reset button just reboots the card, i.e. the status light goes out for a few seconds and then comes back on, never any flashing orange.
Would have been nice if the software had indicated an error when the user entered more than 10 chars in the password field when they cahnaged it.
Any help much appreciated. Thx Peter

The password reset briefly allows you to login as apc/apc through the serial port on your device. There's something like a 30 second window after the device resets to do this.
Now, when you press the reset button, one of two things can happen:
1) The LED flashes orange and green. This is a normal reset and will not give you the opportunity to log in without knowing your password. But if you press the reset button while the LED is flashing orange and green, you get into the second mode:
2) The LED stays off. For a brief period after the device finishes booting, you will be able to use apc/apc as your username and password on the serial port.
Pressing reset while the device is starting up will reset the device and toggle between these two modes.
I hope this helps.

Well thank you, nothing like the documentation but it works.
After pushing the reset button the status light goes out and you just keep hitting enter and finally it prompts for user name and it will accept apc and password apc. Would NEVER have guessed that! Makes it even more exciting that the server console is several hundred feet from the reset button on the masterswitch.
Thank you again.
Regards Peter

Yeah, it's not very convenient. The designers did not want it to be backdoored remotely or accidentally.

Sorry for dragging this one up from the dead.
I have read all of APC's documentation on resetting the AP9606 as well as this thread, but am having no luck with resetting mine.
When I press the reset button, there are no orange flashes, only the status LED going out for 10-15 seconds then coming back solid. The console access over serial is unavailable when the status LED is out. As soon as pressing enter produces a user name field, I try apc/apc but it will not log in. After three attempts it locks me out for two minutes.
I've tried pressing reset only once, no luck. Tried reset, then pressing reset again as soon as the status LED goes out, still no luck.
Am I missing something?
