Hi,
How do I get these types of events to get logged via syslog? All other events do get sent to syslog just fine except these network card errors?
Thank you

Thanks @voidstar -- yes that's a good programming practice yet I'm puzzled with the issue in itself; there are few APC boxes not upgraded to the latest NMC firmware and I was hoping to get to the bottom of this rather than the catch-all fix of upgrading but oh well..

My experience with syslog is it is UDP, so when the network is down the card tries to send it out but it doesn't go anywhere. I've not seen it buffer and then re-send when the network comes back up.
Sound reasonable or am I missing somthing?

Thanks Brad,
Yes totally reasonable. The problem with that is that in my case the card isn't down. Syslog is sending other events at the same general time frame as the DNS error and those other events are recorded successfully (for example NTP update; the occasional switching to battery power, etc).
This DNS thing is some kind of defect which has been plaguing me for years with various degrees of remedy. Support had always suggested to upgrade the firmware which DOES work but I just haven't gotten around to all units.
At the moment a sure fix to the perpetual DNS error is to reboot the management card; that fixes it for an undetermined amount of time until it starts happening again. I want to see those on syslog so we can flag a unit due for a reboot when it starts blasting those errors every second or so
Thanks

My guess is someone wanted to avoid notification amplification. If they sent DNS failure notifications, they'd have to be smart about not sending a DNS failure notification for DNS failures during sending one.
