Hi,
I am trying to get NTP on my SU2200 with an NMC to work. I have the latest firmware on the NMC. Using the serial port, I can configure NTP with any number of known good NTP servers only to get errors that the NTP server addresses are bad. I can, of course, set the time manually with no problem. Any ideas on where to start looking? Thanks in advance!

what NTP server are you trying to type in? an IP address or a FQDN? is the NMC accepting it as a valid server and just not updating or does it not allow you to set the specific server information in primary/secondary? do you get any error message?
i know generally with these you may need to give it a few minutes to allow it to perform the update.

Hi, I am trying to use servers like (USNO) 192.5.41.42 and others like 72.8.140.240. I cannot enter FQDN although I tried and got an error when trying to save the information. The NMC is accenting the IP addresses.
When I try and set the time "now" using NTP I get the error message: Last update failed - bad server address. This happen no matter what IP address I put in.
Do you have specific IP addresses that work for you? Maybe you can share them with me. Additionally, I have two NAS units on the network that update via NTP using FQDN information.
Thanks in advance!

first thing i may do is reboot your NMC under administration->General->reset/reboot and choose reboot management interface. see if the behavior changes.
i tried 72.8.140.240 on my NMC running the same firmware and got update successful and the IP was accepted without issue.
just to confirm, i selected the radio button on "synchronize with NTP server" and then pasted the IP in the primary server field and left secondary as 0.0.0.0. i also made sure my timezone was set correctly and then i selected the box that said update now. it came back almost immediately.
i might also try to ping from your card which is a utility available from the telnet interface under Network->ping utility and see if you can ping any of these addresses. are you able to try that?

Hi and thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I am not an IT guy or a network person so my understanding of setting up a network is limited. Anyway, I could not ping the time server per your suggestion initially. I was looking at some of the network and/or TCP/IP settings and noticed that I did not have a default gateway set. So I set that and all is well. Thanks again for all your support!
