While doing generator startup and ATS power transfer tests, we received a UPS thermal overload on battery alarm and UPS shut itself down completely. UPS recovered after manual restart. Can anyone tell under what circumstance this alarm is generated. What are the possible causes? Was the UPS doing its job? This alarm is different from inventer overload alarm, isn't it? Thanks.

Hello,
I asked our 3 phase support team. They told me:
Part of the answer lies in how old the batteries are. The UPS was on battery for almost 1 minute before it could not sustain the load on battery at this point the bypass was not available, so the load dropped. The only way to know for sure would be for a Field Service Engineer to be on site and repeat the test and get readings and download service logs. If the batteries are old, it may not be able to support the load for a short period and would need to be replaced.

Our batteries are two years old. After UPS was restored, we opened/closed input breaker several times without any problem. The longest open/close switch was 5 minutes. We will do more tests on batteries to check their condition.
Can Galaxy 3000 UPS return to online from battery mode if the bypass source is not available?

Hi again,
Here is what I got:
If the UPS is in battery mode it can not go to online if the utility power (bypass) is not available. Once utility power is restore, the UPS will leave battery power and be online.

Hello there,
First, check battery,
second, might have a defective power supply,
third, issues with ups management PCBs.
Now, for the first issue, if you're techsavvy, it is ok for you to do troubleshooting, but 2nd and 3rd, have a Schneider FSE come down to see you, it is pretty interesting and not user/customer friendly repair.
hope I could help.
cheers.
M
