We have 8 Smart UPS (SU1500 & SU2200 models) in our envirment and we moved around some of the load and now a couple of them are dropping the load on self test and causing servers to reboot. We installed new batteries and they continue to fail. I read that this is a known issue.
Are there recommended adjustments that can be made to fix this issue?
A UPS should not cause the problem that it is meant to solve.

The two are both SUA1500 ups and the serial numbers are AS0527222230 & AS0526232090. Both are showing full charge and 33% load and no cables or cards.

Hi,
After the self test has been done, have you seen any indicator and audible alarm that says Replace Battery? Since you have said from the previous statement that you have moved around loads, have you checked if the UPS is sufficient to handle all of them by watts/va capacity?
You may also want to decrease load on the unit that is dropping the load and see the reposnse of the UPS.
Basically, when the UPS does an automatic self test or if the customer do it manually, and it dropped the load, it is more likely the battery is already weak and needs to be replaced or the battery charge is not sufficient to handle the load.

You did mention you installed new batteries, though I'm curious if those are APC batteries?
I'm not sure where you heard/read this is a known issue, but it isn't. As you said, a UPS should not drop the load with a good, working battery for absolutely no reason. I know in the past, people mentioned that the UPS turned off when running a self-test (or during a power outage) with BAD batteries, but not with good ones. And that shouldn't be an issue on the newer SUA models. You first said SU and then SUA - which one is it?
Try disconnecting the servers and connecting something else (radio, lamp, anything) and run another self-test to see if that makes any difference. Also, how are you running these tests? You said there are no cables attached so that means you're not using the software to initiate a test.

It would be good to understand specifically what kind of servers are rebooting. On the UPSs with this issue, does all the attached equipment reboot, or just select servers?
Also, have you tried shifting loads that do not reboot onto these UPSs to see if the behavior follows the UPS or the server? It's very unlikely that the UPSs are not performing to specification.
