Fault error on Smart-UPS RT 1000VA 230V

Hi

Just got a used SURT1000XLI that was said to be in working condition.

When I connect the power cable to my Smart-UPS RT 1000VA 230V, the Fault led (red) and Battery lights 2 and 3 (green) comes on. They disapeear after about 5 seconds and come on again after 10 seconds, this repeat itself continuously. No other lights are on on the panel.

I read in another post for a SURT3000XLI, http://forums.isxusergroups.com/thread.jspa?messageID=20095乿 , that the error code indicates a fan fault.
I have checked the fans and they are working fine:
One fan starts when the UPS is connected to the power grid.
The other one I took out and tested, and when I do a self-test it starts and stops when the test is finished.

Has anyone experienced the same problem or have any idea what the problem could be?

Changed out both fans with new ones, did not help.

Anyone have any other ideas?

have you tried cleaning the fan with compressed air at all? these fans are not servicable unfortunately.

also, just to confirm, these are lights 2 and 3 when going from the bottom up, correct? like this:

0
0
1
1
0

where the 1's mean the LEDs are on?

Yes, the lights are from the bottom and up:

I will give them a good cleaning and see what happens.
Thank you for the tip.
