RE: APC Article FA177822 - PowerChute Network Shutdown v3.1 Required VMware vSphere Permissions
On page 6 of the PDF attachment for article FA177822, I can't seem to locate the three "System" permissions in vCenter 5.5. I looked through all permissions and couldn't equate them to anything that I hadn't already enabled. Was the PDF based on 5.1 permissions? If so, what are the 5.5 permission labels for these three items?

Hi,
I think the issue you are seeing is not caused by incorrect permissions and is covered in this post: Re: PCNS 3.1 with VMWare

Hi,
The 3 system permissions are not configurable via vSphere Client GUI when connected to vCenter Server via Permissions tab.
However they are assigned automatically to any new user role that you are create.

Sorry to post another question in the thread but seeing as its about permissions, At what level should the User being used by PCNS be placed in the vpshere hierarchy? Vcenterserver, Datacenter or Cluster?
Thanks

The PCNS service account/user should be placed at the vCenter Server level.

Thanks, but what I am seeing is the user logging in and out of the vcenter server but then there are errors for each host "Cannot login domain\user@10.10.0.207 error 15/04/2014 15:44:51 host1.mydomain.local domain\user"
It is set to propagate from vcenterserver.

Hi,
Can you provide more context as to when you are seeing the failed login messages? Is PCNS failing to shut down VMs/ESXi hosts?
Thanks

These messages are in the Events section of vcenterserver in vsphere client. I tested the shutdown yesterday (and some of it went to plan...) it logged into the hosts, put them into maintenance mode and proceeded to shutdown the VMs. It shutdown 1 host but not the other 2! Checking the events log I don't recall seeing this error before the shutdown but now everything is back on it is popping up every couple of minutes for each host.
