Event Log: System File transfer failed.

Every now and then the AP9631 NMC Event Log shows:

System: File transfer failed.

The documentation had not information on that. What does this error message mean and what needs to be done to fix it or to turn it off?

While investigating I found that my router is announcing a legacy TFTP server although that was disabled in the Web UI, however there was a config file that had this enabled. After removing these config options the DHCP offers did not contain a TFTP server any more and the file transfer error event messages stopped in the NMC event log.

No one else with this message? (That issue happens with NMC AP 6931 Firmware 6.7.2, let's see if it goes away with Firmware 6.9.6)

This event log message still also occurs on Firmware 6.9.6:

User: System

Event: File transfer failed.

Did not find it in the documentation.

Any ideas what that might be?

Hi Jongen,

you marked the problem as solved. Are the messages gone?

It also might have been a missing file in the updatedirectory of the nmc.

no i often mistake the answer button as a reply button. The problem persists.

This happens once or twice a day!

Not sure what files you mean, but this is where I found the update files:

in upsfw folder:

 45000 Jan  6  1:18  ID18UPS_09-4.enc

in root directory:

3137536 Nov  5  8:31  apc_hw05_aos_696.bin
3018116 Nov  6 11:08  apc_hw05_sumx_696.bin

in lang folder:

911713 Dec  1 13:45  sumx_696_frFrdeDeruRuitItesEs.lpk

any concrete hints?

Hmm,

looks the same on mine. No problem to see.

Maybe you should rewrite the firmware update one more time, to make sure

that files are not broken.

There is probably something on your network contacting the NMC via FTP or SSH.

Try turning off both services for a day and see if the error goes away, I believe you need to reboot the NMC after you disable these.

Nope, that is not the case. FTP was never enabled. I have no SSH jobs running in the background, but I will verify using Wireshark.

This is very probably something else. Are there any cron-job-alike things running on the NMC that try to send/copy data from now and then?

Thanks Detlef, this thread is indeed interesting. The last file transfer fail time actually coincides with the DHCP leave refresh. So I guess TFTP could be also the reason here. However, I did not understand how the user fixed it. On the DHCP server the TFTP server is disabled.

I did not find any TFTP setting in the UI and the CLI. So the only thing I could do is disable DHCP and set everything manually (which is not my preferred option but I will do it temporarily for troubleshooting purposes). The file transfer start event notifications were already turned on, but the other user also did not see any notifications upon file transfer start, same here.

I will come back when I know if the file transfer failed event notifications go away after turning off DHCP on the NMC.
