Hi,
I'm looking at getting the Smart-UPS 750 for a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that I run at home. I need both battery backup and surge protection. I noticed this model does not include Ethernet protection ports, unlike the smaller 420W and 620W models. Any idea why?

that is not a feature of any of the Smart UPS product families, only generally surge protectors and Back UPS systems. the idea is that servers may have more than one connection point.
for use with a Smart UPS, we'd recommend you look into ProtectNet's -> http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=145

Thanks for pointing out the ProtectNet line as I wasn't aware of it. It is not available in my region but I'll check to see if I can find a similar device.
Another option is to get one of the smaller Smart-UPS units (620 & 420) because I think they have Ethernet ports.
Do you know what the efficiency curve is like for the 620 and 420 models, because I can't find it here:

It also seems these products were not refreshed at the same time as the 750 model, which I think got an LCD and more efficient circuitry about a couple of years ago. I think the 420 & 620 platform could be a bit outdated as far as green features go. Would you still recommend them?
Besides, I'm not sure how to treat the efficiency value of a line interactive UPS. Does it apply to AC mode or only to battery mode? I know line interactive units are theoretically on standby / near off in AC mode but then again the ones I've seen have always run warm, which has been a mystery to me. I'd be happy if you could clear that up. Thanks.
