Error message in events logs

What does "powerchute agent outlet turning off (by external entity)" mean?

We arrived at work to see this server shut down, 5 others on various apc ups's were not.

The error is difficult to find online.

Hi,

When configuring PowerChute Business Edition you are asked to assign an outlet group. When the outlet group is powered off PowerChute records the event. In this case something caused the UPS to power off. An event such as this would normally be caused by someone turning the UPS off. That could happen by pressing the power button or if the UPS has a network card by logging in and turning the UPS off.

Hi Bill,

firstly many thanks for taking the time to respond, that was much appreciated. OK i understand the response but this UPS was behind a locked door and it went off on a Saturday morning when no one was in. (Not even the cleaners, yes we went there).

Is there a scenario that would cause this, or is it a glitch? Like i said 3 other UPSs and about 5 servers in the same comms cab stayed up, no problem. Just this server on this UPS.

Hi,

The logs only indicate the outlet group was powered off. If there was no user intervention there is no way to know base on the information available.

Hello.

Do you really think it's a coincidence?

How would PSBE know, that someone turned off the UPS with a switch? In my opinion, it will not be registered if PSBE turned off unless it's a manual command from PSBE.

I have been struggling with the same problem for a year and it has happened to me several times, although not with every power failure.
No one shut down the UPS by accident or intentionally.
The logs clearly tell what happened with the main power.
I have additional proof from the logs: PC and server powered with the same ups (server connected to the UPS via USB, PC not communicating with the UPS).

logs from PSBE:

2023-01-20 07:59:40 Communication Established
2023-01-20 07:59:32 Monitoring Started (note: manually starting the server)
2023-01-19 22:05:54 Monitoring Stopped
2023-01-19 22:05:54 PowerChute Agent outlet turning off (by external entity)
2023-01-19 22:05:54 Communication Established
2023-01-19 22:05:48 Monitoring Started
2023-01-19 21:27:55 Monitoring Stopped
2023-01-19 21:27:54 Main Outlet Group commanded to: shutdown using delay
2023-01-19 21:27:53 Shutdown process started
2023-01-19 21:27:53 Time On Battery Threshold Exceeded
2023-01-19 21:07:51 On Battery

selected logs from server:

19.01.2023 22:05:54 "Monitoring Stopped"
19.01.2023 22:05:54 "Shutdown In Progress" (no one turned off the UPS!)
19.01.2023 22:05:54 "Communications Established"

selected logs from PC:

19.01.2023 22:05:33 Kernel-Power 41 (63) The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.
Since then, there is main power till today.

It seems that, the application performed a system shutdown again though main power.
So it gets incorrect information about main power from the UPS or the application falls into a loop.

I have the app v10.0.5.301 and my settings is: turn off after 20 minutes, 6 min outlet delay (one group), 1 min turn on delay, 45% minimum charge.
