What are the events that will cause error code 0x0109 "UPS: On battery power in response to an input
power problem." ?
I can't find a list of parameters that will cause the UPS to transfer to battery and send the above message.
Obviously low AC incoming voltage would. But at what level (%) and for how long will cause the UPS to go to battery and then transmit this message?
Also, will high incoming voltage also cause this?
Can someone supply me a list or some guidance?
This is in regards to APC Smart-UPS 3000 RM UPS's
I received a screen print (attached) and I see that a voltage spike can cause the UPS to go to battery. Is there a way to limit the messages so that the UPS has to e on battery for a specified period of time before it sends an email?

Hi,
Here is some general information found in our knowledge base.
Smart-UPS protect data by supplying network-grade battery backup when power fails. Computer hardware is protected and system life extended through superior full-time multistage surge suppression and noise filtering. The Smart-UPS can switch to on-battery operation as a result of power disturbances or software initiated commands. There is a common misperception that a Smart-UPS will use its battery based only on voltage fluctuations. The following list provides the possible causes for a Smart-UPS switching to battery operation, along with a brief definition of each.
No Voltage (Blackout): A total loss of utility power.
Low Voltage (Brownout): A decrease in voltage levels. Sometimes this is not visually noticeable.
High Voltage (Over Voltage): A surge is a short-term increase in voltage.
A spike is an instantaneous dramatic increase in voltage.
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): Periodic distortion of the sine wave. Harmonics add to the fundamental frequency in magnitude.
Change in Voltage (dv/dt): Rapidly changing voltage. If the voltage increases or decreases rapidly, the Smart-UPS will transfer to battery because the Smart-UPS does not know how high or how low the voltage will go.
Frequency Changes (Hz): Deviation from the nominal 60Hz in North America.

Sensitivity also has to do with this, take a look at [this article|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=62]. If the sensitivity is too high, say when a generator comes on and provides "dirty" power, exhibiting THD as mentioned above, it'd send the UPS to battery.
You can customize the settings of this event. You can set this to happen only after the event lasts for say 2 minutes. If you go to the administration tab, notification section, then on the left hand side click on by event, under event actions, click on input line status under power events then find this event on the list. Click on this event and then click on the email recipient that you want to adjust this setting for and you should get the screen like the one I attached to this post and you can configure it the way you like it. In my picture the UPS will wait until this event has occured for 2 minutes straight, to send the event and will not repeat the email afterwards. If the event happens again and last for more than 2 minutes, it will send another email.
