Do I need PCBusiness Edition and PC Network Shutdown?

I have APC SmartUPS RT 5000. A single esxi host 5.1, that has 3 VM's. My goal is to be able to cleanly powerdown the VM's and Host when the UPS is activated. This is my first experience with a UPS. Do I need to install the PCBE on a VM and install the agent on each VM, and install the vApp for PCNS?

TIA,
xempress

Hello,

If you have a Network Management Card, you will want to install PowerChute Network Shutdown for Virtualization.  If you do not have an Network Management Card installed in your RT unit, you will want to establish a serial/USB connection between your Host and UPS and install PowerChute Business Edition for Virtualization.  You are to only use one or the other.  Once you have established which one you will use, follow the proper documentation on the install and setup.

Regards,

My first impression was that I just needed the vApp, but in this documentation

PowerChute Network Shutdown v4.0 Installation Guide PDF

http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/PMAR-9HBK44/PMAR-9HBK44_R2_EN.pdf

Page 4, it states "You must uninstall PowerChute Plus, PowerChute Business Edition, PowerChute
Personal Edition, and PowerChute Server before installing PowerChute Network
Shutdown."

That is why I am now thinking I need to install the PCBE, Agents on each VM and the PCN vApp. Do I also need to install a agent on the esxi host itself?
