Difference product id and firmware SMT1000RM2UC

Hello,

We have 2 UPS on site:

- SMT1000RM2UC with product ID: 1027 and FW: 06.0.

- SMT1000RM2UC with product ID: 1060 FW:02.0.

It appears that the latest firmware for product id: 1027, is 17.2.

I have a few questions regarding the different product ids
1) Are there any major differences between FW06.0 and 17.2?
2) Is it safe to upgrade from 06.0 -> 17.2?

3) When I update the UPS with id: 1027 to 17.2, is it functionally the same as the one with id: 1060?

If this hardware is under warranty a firmware upgrade must be conducted live over the phone with APC Technical Support.

Should the UPS firmware update fail and brick the system they may be able to assist in the recovery process. If the system is bricked they can initiate a RMA to replace the entire unit.

If the hardware is (NOT) under warranty you have a greater than 50% of bricking a fully functioning system! ☝️🤦‍♂️

All the steps are outlined in this APC FAQ:

https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA279197/

If you do not have the OEM proprietary serial cable - STOP!

If you don’t have a hot spare on site or exit strategy - STOP!

If you don’t know how to use X-Modem - STOP!

As it relates to what is different between the two firmware revisions. All of this is called out in the firmware read me file included in the FUW.

Hi Teken,

Thanks for your reply.

We do have the USB cable that comes included and I can detect the UPS and CAN upgrade the firmware over USB. Will check about the warranty stuff.

Now the difference between the two firmware revisions is not all covered in the readme files. Since there is a huge gap between the versions, for the ones in between (if there are any) there is no readme file that I could find.
