DC Imbalance fault on Smart-UPS 2200 Rack Mount

I have been informed via tech support that I have a DC imbalance fault with my SUA2200RM2U Smart-UPS 2200.
The symptoms are all the left side LED lights are flashing ( 5 green Load, 2 amber AVR Trim & Boost, and the green On Line).

I have performed all the instructed methods to reset, kill the brain and revive and the cold start. Which is what brought me, to it must be a DC Imbalance fault as per the techs.

One tech instructed to replace the batteries, after some thought I decided to get a second opinion and the 2nd tech is suggesting repair and or possible replacement.

I guess I am now looking for any suggestions to resolve from the APC forums, maybe someone out there who has encountered the same issue.

Any help and or input will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
G

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately the notes sound like what one of the phone techs interpreted to be the case.

History:
1. So. Calif encountered a major power outage a few weeks back.
2. My unit was and has always worked just fine.
3. When the power went out our two servers ran on the battery supply for approximately 30 minutes, I shut them and all the networking devices down as we were informed that power would not be restored for hours.
4. At this point nothing was taking any load on the APC unit.
5. The power was restored several hours later and when I arrived the next morning the unit was charging.
6. The only odd thing was that the alarm was sounding, I shut the unit off a couple of times but the alarm would not go off.
7. After a few hours my office and I were tired of hearing it and I shut it down and unplugged from the power source.
8. Over the weekend I powered the unit back up and at my surprise the alarm was off and the charging led's were on, Great! everything is back to normal.
9. I left the unit charging with no load of any kind overnight and returned the next morning to find all the left side lights flashing, and no of the right side lights were lit at all.
10. Hence this is where I am now at, the sound the tech heard was the self test and it has always done this when it is turned on, once the load test is done there is no buzzing.

Anyway, that's my story and I appreciate any and all comments.
I would really like some input on what the term DC Imbalance means in a non electrical geek way.

Regards,
G

I was actually able to bring up your case and i would recommend replacing the UPS. Based on the notes, I see the unit was making a loud buzzing noise and was showing an overload with no load plugged in. This is not normal behavior and a new battery would not fix this. I apologize that you have been given inconstant information. If there anyone else has any recommendations, feel free to reply.
