I'm developing a custom C# application that runs on stand alone PCs running Windows 7 attached to an APC 1500 UPS (not sure of the exact model # yet). I'm looking for advice on the how to make my application aware of power loss and pending shutdown. Does the app just need to monitor windows events, or does something like this typically interact with the APC software? As you can probably guess from the vague questions, I am just getting started with this - I'm just having trouble finding much information.
Any advice, help, links or info is appreciated.

we'd need to know the exact model because if it is a Smart UPS 1500 (SUA1500), you could probably work with this. some people use that to be able to signal their device/PC to shutdown with the serial port. other alternatives are using dry contacts.
we'd need to know the model though to make sure our suggestions are valid for your UPS. if its a Back UPS 1500, the answer would be completely different.
