Hi,
I have just ordered an SMT1000i Smart UPS (1000VA-670W) for my system who got a
high efficient Enermax MODU87+ 700W power supply. (I'm waiting the ups)
I'm using my power supply up to 500W when the system is in full load with an addition of 50W for the monitor.
500+50 == 550W
this means that "I should be in" into the 670W of the Smart UPS also if my power supply is rated for 700W.
This is what I though.
Reading this pdf from APC confused me a little.
http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/RMUZ-7DTKRC_R1_EN.pdf
In that pdf they say:
"A critical factor to consider in avoiding an overload trip fault is the ‘nominal’ power rating of the power supplies,
not the actual steady state power consumption."
I don't understood if this is true for both simulated sinewave ups and pure sinewave or only the first one.
So do you think that I should change my Enermax 700W with a 600W?
Thanks.

Too much money for me and for a home use in general.
Absolutely don't want to spend this money for a home PC.
509€ for a SmartUPS paired with a Home PC is simply stupid,
300€ for a Simulated SineWave UPS (BR1500GI) is absurd, simulated sinewave isn't good
for PC use since they have active pfc, and it is not reasonable to spend 300€ for something
that isn't that good.
I will definitely choose something different than APC.
Thanks for the attention and patience.

I read tons of reviews and articles about UPSs and I lost this important things.
This is a terrificantly bad news, I need to change UPS instead of PSU.
Now I need to stop the order, uff...
The minimum PSU that I can run on my system is a 550W/600W one,
for 600W psu SMT1000 isn't enough -_-
this is a very bad news, SMT1500 is unaffordable for PC use...
probably I should switch to the series that I don't like, the simulated expensive wave BR1500GI. o_O
choosing an UPS for a high end normal pc is a nightmare.

I absolutely can't belive it.
I have an high end PC, nothing more. No SLI, no CFIRE.
I7 960
1 high rpm sata
1 green sata
1 GTX480
This PC eats 500W in full load + monitor it eats 550W.
All PSU suitable for this PC got active pfc, so if I want an ups for that pc using pure sinewave I need to spend 550€ (SMT1500i)?
550€ are $776, something must be wrong.
