We've got an APC RT 8000xl UPS connected to a number of servers and equipment.
All servers are configured when there is a power failure and the UPS is down to 15% of its capacity, to start the shutdown procedure.
What we would like to do (if possible) is in the case the shutdown command is given by the APC and a server shuts down, but the power comes back (so the APC starts charging without being fully discharged), have the APC 'simulate' a power on/off for the outlet that the server (that has shutdown) is connected.
This will force the server to switch back on, considering the BIOS has been configured to do so.
Any help or pointers will be much appreciated.
Thank you!

if the power comes back after the shut down, but before UPS shuts off, the UPS should still signal the status change. Could your server be setup to wake up on LAN on "power restored" command?

That's the way it should work. Once a shutdown starts, the UPS will shutdown even if AC is present. After shutdown, it will restart on AC present.
Are you seeing something different?

yes, buzz is right. if the UPS never reboots because power goes out but then comes back, it will not change the AC output, thus never telling the servers to power back on.
