Configure PCNS 4.2 to Shutdown VM and ESXi hosts after 1 hour running on battery mode.

Good day. I have APC Smart UPS 2200 with NMC configured, and the connection is established fine from UPS to my vCenter (with 2 ESXi hosts).

I can login to my PCNS agent installed in my vMA, and configured the "Virtual Machine Startup / Shutdown" which is default 120 seconds for both, and "vCenter Server VM Shutdown" for 240 seconds which is default settings also.

There is one question from me. Let's say there is power interruption and the UPS needs to operate in battery mode (currently can last for 1h 40 min). Is it possible to configure the UPS to operate in battery mode for 1 hour and followed by gracefully shutdown the VM and ESXi hosts?

Hi,

Configure the On Battery event in the PowerChute interface and set the delay to 3600 seconds (1 hour). If the UPS runs on battery for longer than 1 hour PowerChute will start the shutdown process. When the process starts PowerChute will command the VMs and any Vapps down, Then vCenter server will be commanded down and finally the hosts. If left at the defaults settings the VM/Vapp power down delay is 120 seconds, then vCenter will power down which has a default delay of 240 seconds. After the 120 +240 second delays the hosts power down.

Thanks for the reply. But I'm not sure whether I'm in the correct page of PowerChute interface, and where to configure the shutdown delay of 3600 seconds (1 hour). I can see the something like in the following screenshot.

Please advise.

Hi,

The screenshot provided is the web interface for the network management card not PowerChute. To log into PowerChute you need the ip address of the system it is running on Example http://192.168.1.10:6547 Once logged in go to Configure Event - UPS on Battery. Select Shutdown - Enable Shutdown and enter 3600 seconds.
