Cisco 6509 UPS

We are ordering several Cisco Catalyst 6509s. We need a UPS for each. The 6509s will have a 6000 watt power supply in each one. We need a solution to power each one with enough time, if full power outage, to remote into each and shut down servers and other devices. Please advise on which product will be the best solution. Thank you.

Robert,

Let me collect some more information from you to recommend a right UPS for your need.

How much run time would you like in the event of a power outage?
What type of outlet or voltage do you have available to plug the UPS into?
Do you want a rack mount or tower UPS?

Robert,

Let me add some things to what Techie had said.

- What is the exact model of the Cisco 6509 do you have?
- Is it using redundant power supply?
- Aside from the Cisco device, are you planning to attach other devices on this UPS? If yes what are those?

We need enough time in order to remote into all servers and shut them down or for the APC software to shut them down for us. So about 20 mins? We do have generatiors, however, I have not been notified of the time delay for power.

The plug type is NEMA L6-20 250 VAC 16A

It will be rack mount.

6509E is the model that we are ordering.

Yes it will have Daul 3000 watt power supplys

No the UPS will only run the switch. However, I would like the ability to add if needed.

Robert,

Based from our UPS selector there's are many variants of Cisco Catalyst 6509E, there's one tool that can help us determine what UPS to use. Please click on this link [http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm] and this should open the APC UPS Selector.

Please follow the following steps to navigate the selector.

- Choose Configure by Devices and then click on Networking
- Select the appropriate manufacturer, in your case it would be Cisco
- On the model drop down box you should be able to see tons of Cisco devices, please select the appropriate model of your Cisco Catalyst 6509E.
- Please be informed as well that whatever data that shows up on the Power Draw, number of power cords, plug type etc. that they are the basic configuration of the Cisco products.
- Once you're done selecting the model click on Add to Configuration and then Continue to Preferences
- It will then ask you about your desired runtime and other options, once done click on Show Solution
- This should give you an overview of what should be the UPS that would work for you

Please let us know what are the options that was given to you. Also, would it be possible for you to send me a private message with your contact details on it?
