Chilled water

Hi,

I am interested in the InRow RC units for a small data centre that is running too hot. We currently have a 5 tonne ceiling hung A/C that runs off city water, I think in this city it is actually against the by-laws, but that's another issue all together. Since we can't "expand" the capacity of the existing unit, something like an inrow solution makes sense. The data centre is too far from the exterior of the building to install any sort of vented system, so InRow SC units are out of the question.

So, what I need to know is what solutions are available to provide chilled water for the RC units? We obviously do not have an existing chiller, so I need everything to run 1 or 2 RC units. I understand what the chiller does, I just need manufacturer names and models to support this configuration and maybe tips on whether this is a viable solution, especially from a cost perspective.

Thanks,

--Pete

Hi
From my point of view I would look through the document http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5S8Z_R1_EN.pdf
especially page 5.
This should help to understand how to remove hot and what the configuration could be.

Hi pete,

Here is what one of the cooling team members replied with/suggested:

OK. I have a few concerns. the first is that the customer only needs two ACRC units. Do we know what the heat load of the space is? the concept of inrow cooling is vastly different from the cm unit currently being utilized. Does the facility have means to run the proper piping for CW out to a chiller? I would suggest to the customer to call to the local sales rep and request a site visit to evaluate.

Hi,

It sounds more like the sales team than the engineering team.

To clarify, I want to know what I need to make this work, once I have that information, I will be able to determine if my office/building can support that infrastructure.

Thanks,

--Pete

Pete,

While I understand what the question is, noone that moderates the APC Discussion page, nor Tech Support can provide you with that information. You need to have a manufacturer's representative come to your site and view what the system's current capabilities are, and a build-out should be done AFTER that.

Hmm,

OK, what if I rephrase the question.

I am interested in the APC InRow RC air conditioning units. Can anyone tell me what else is required to run such units?

Thanks,

--Pete
