Can the APC BR1600SI UPS Be Laid Flat?

For space claim, could I place the APC BR1600SI UPS (960W/1600VA) flat instead of standing upright. Is it safe for prolonged use in that orientation and are there any potential of leaks or damage to the device itself?

If it can be laid flat, what are the precautions and setup that needs to be carried out

All of the Back-UPS Series units are designed to sit vertically. All of the installation and precautions are outlined on the first page of the user manual which I have linked here:
