Can't get a test email to work

Not understanding why the email test is not working. i setup a relay for the PowerChute servers IP on teh exchange server. Other devices can relay through the recieve connector just fine without authentication. Set the same settings in the PowerChute server and I get this in the logs

Thu Feb 04 16:05:01 MST 2016: [SMTPMailWorker.transmitMailMessage()]- The following email address(es) are invalid and will not receive mail: gummby8@gmail.com
Thu Feb 04 16:05:01 MST 2016: [SMTPMailWorker.transmitMailMessage()]- Send failed :javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses;
nested exception is:
com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay

I get the same error no matter what email I put in the reciepient field.
