I want to assign an IP address to the Symmetric LX. I connected via putty at 19,200, 8/n/1 flow ctrl off - no go. Likewise I tried at 9,600bps and no-go.
Is there any way to connect to the Ethernet port via a cross-over cable? That is - does the unit come with a default IP address that I could
telnet to or GUI to? Any way to bypass the serial setup???

I don't have the special serial cable. Is the pin-out available somewhere?

Unfortunately the pin-outs are proprietary. Is your Symmetra unit still in warranty? Can you send me the serial number of the unit?

if the cable needs to be purchased, you can find it here: http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=940-0024

Thanks Michael.
Since you do have an NMC1, make sure that you are using either the 940-0024 or 940-1524 Smart Signaling Serial Cable. Next on the PutTy session make sure that the settings are 2400, 8, None, 1, None. Once you are on the PutTy screen press enter twice, if done correctly or let's say if they are communicating correctly you should be able to see a username/password prompt. The default username and password for our network management card is apc.
Also, make sure that you do not have any programs that is using the serial/COM port where the APC cable is attached. If there are services running, please stop them first in order not to interfere with the UPS and NMC communication.

Hi Michael,
First and foremost, I would like to know what is the part number of the NMC that is installed on this UPS. With this, we should be able to help assign an IP address. Below is a link as well that would help you configure the Network Management Card (NMC) in case you have this on your UPS.
