Hi all,
We just purchased a new APC Smart-UPS 3000 rackmount UPS (specs here: http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUA3000RMJ2UB&total_watts=50)
The problem is that we didn't realize until after we purchased it that we are only running a 20A circuit to the wall outlet and the plug on the UPS is for 30A
I'm hoping that it was given a 30A plug to handle high-power datacenter lines and with an adapter I can run it on a 20A line. Does anyone know if it's safe to run this UPS on a 20A line?

that should answer your questions, but the answer is essentially yes, you can change the plug type but you need to worry about overload conditions.
but please take a look at the article and let us know if you have any other questions.

I Picked a Winner comes up with good links. How did you ever find that one on APC website?
As an electrician I would say get a quote to pull #10 wire. The cost shouldn't be too crazy and there may be a 30 amp single pole breaker already in the panel.
We always run #10 even if we were to put a L520R
L(locking) 5(120v) 20(20amp) or 30(30amp) R(receptacle). Gives you more options down the road.
Good link.

Also in the future consided operating servers at 208v or 240v to cut down on heat load and operate more efficently.
My 2cents.
