Back-UPS XS 1000 over ethernet

I know the unit Back-UPS XS 1000 is an older unit now, but I noticed it has a data port on it. The diagrahm says RJ-45 to USB for the dataport. Is it possible to just use an ethernet cable from the data port straight into a switch and have the software pick it up over the network?

no that is not an option. that data port is used with an RJ-50 connection, similar to RJ-45 connector, for use with the APC RJ-50 to USB data cable, AP9827, for monitoring via powerchute personal edition only.

Same option for the Business Edition of the software?

this unit isnt really designed to use powerchute business edition but if you get a special serial cable thats RJ-50-DB9, you can use PCBE with this UPS in simple signaling mode. you lose a lot of functionality and the UPS can only tell the software if its on battery or at low battery. with personal edition, you can monitor input voltage, charging status, runtime remaining, etc
